History of Gerontological Nursing in Japan
Developmental background of approaches for the elderly and Gerontological Nursing in Japan 1973 Enactment of the Act for the Welfare of the Aged: The basic framework of approaches for the welfare of the aged was established with the sharp decline of the birth rate as well as increase in the population of the elderly related to improvement in public sanitation after the war 1973 Establishment of a support system for the medical bills of the elderly: Free medical care for the elderly resulted in soaring medical bills of the elderly 1982 Enactment of the Health and Medical Service Act for the Aged: The act was aimed at promoting comprehensive countermeasures against healthcare for the elderly as well as realizing a fair share of the necessary expenses from the nation.
